This past week’s athletes of the week were sophomore Aaron Murphy and sophomore Madeline Smith.
Murphy, a 6’3 sophomore, has been a big part of the Rampant’s turn around success in basketball. Aaron is averaging 21 points and 8 rebounds per game this season, helping Rose reach an 18-2 record thus far. Last week, Aaron led his team to two more conference victories over New Bern and Eastern Wayne, now securing the one seed for Rose in the 3A part of the conference and will be seeded as a one seed going into the state playoffs. Last week against New Bern, Murphy had 16 points and 8 rebounds and Friday at Eastern Wayne he led the team with 34 points and 11 rebounds while also having 8 assists.
Madeline Smith, a sophomore for the Rampant’s women’s swim team, made a big splash around the state this past weekend with her performance at the NCHSAA State Swim Meet. Madeline helped lead her team to a 5th place finish overall, the highest in Rose history for women and she took home two gold medals herself. Madeline won both the 100 and 200 freestyle races and was named Most Outstanding Swimmer for the state. This is Madeline’s third gold medal as she won the 200 last year as a freshman.
